Septic shock is a medical emergency. Understanding the pathophysiology and goals of treatment for sepsis is key to making critical decisions during the first few hours of caring for a patient in shock. Pharmacotherapeutic management with vasopressors is a major component of that care. Drugs specifics will be outlined for the major vasopressor agents: Phenylephrine, Vasopressin, Norepinephrine, Epinephrine, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Angiotensin II.
